The VCS Ltd breeding programme has been developed over the past ten years, but the expertise and thought that has been employed within the programme has been directly influenced by the decades of experience of Gareth Elliott (MD). He benefited from parents who were renowned as world-wide as experts in the German Shepherd Dog (GSD) field. Both of them are revered as international judges and breed authors.

His father Percy and his mother Nem, forged the GSD breed in the UK as we now know it. They and their Kennel Prefix of Vikkas av Hvitsand became synonymous with quality: quality temperaments; quality characters; quality breeding; quality appearance; quality companions; quality working dogs.

Motivated purely by their love of the GSD breed and by applying principles important to them, they often ran in the face of severe criticism. Undeterred, they pursued their goals and eventually succeeded in producing a popularising the GSD type that we now accept as the best example of the GSD breed. Gareth's exposure to this kind of steadfast and unflinching intent has served to remind him of the important principles to uphold when striving for perfection.

The VCS Ltd breeding programme is considered a priority and receives the appropriate level of investment. Through breeding experience and client demands, we sought to produce the 'ideal detection dog', combining the assets of the Labrador and German Shorthaired Pointer. The results of this mating policy have been ground breaking for all round quality of the dogs produced. Whatever the detection role, this cross of breeds provides dogs that display the wonderful drive of the GSP, coupled with the unquestionable qualities of the reliable, biddable and loveable face of the Labrador.

The measurement of our breeding programme has seen a 74% success rate for eight Labrador litters. This measurement includes the dog's passing their initial x-ray requirements, followed by their pass or fail when entered into a training programme. Our recent litter just passed an unprecedented 100% success rate.

The recent purchase of a number of GSD bitches confirms our intention to produce the finest working GSD's in the UK. Our stock is procured from across Europe, and by selective breeding, we will produce the finest dogs that will perform.
Their inherent qualities will be brought to the fore and allowed to develop at their own pace in order to realise their full potential and provide operational dogs second to none. We are extremely excited to be developing our GSD progeny.
